![]() ![]() Eddie unfortunately comes off goofy IMO, but I like his character. Angela and Laura especially had amazing performances and dialogue. They are lost, depressed and awkward, and the VO does a fantastic job of conveying it. IMO the awkward voice acting really suits the vibe as well as the characters themselves. The characters, plot and voice acting are all great, as expected. ![]() It is however worth noting that my play sessions were less frequent than SH3, so that might have contributed. With SH3 I felt like I got more used to it by the end of the game, but I felt just as scared at the end of SH2 as when I started it. But SH2 has scarier monsters (though not that much variety), actually BETTER sound design (a feat that I didn't think was possible) and is a bit better at keeping you on your toes throughout the game. SH3 is more direct in that it has a lot of extremely dark areas, hellish and gory environments and a scarier OST. Some people say SH2 isn't as scary as SH3, but I'd say it's probably even scarier IMO. About as good if not better than I anticipated. 10/10.ġ1h 22m PlayedAww man, just as good as people said. Though it truly was a scary game on the first run, replaying it really makes you appreciate what an intricate/beautiful game Silent Hill 2 was. Straightforward gameplay, unsettling levels like the Apartments, Hospital, Prison/Labrynth, and especially the Hotel, a terrifying ambience that made you dread the location you were in, the beauty of this game was its simplicity. And as much as I want the leave ending to be canon, I think the water/suicide ending is canon because James lies to himself constantly and I don't think he was strong enough to live with his crimes and move on without Mary, which is the entire premise behind this insane plot, but I'm not sure. ![]() Hell, people still debate if James was a terrible person or not. It all depends on your philosophy and morals, and the decisions you made in game. Should he live with his regrets and move on by taking care of the orphaned child his wife wanted to raise? Does he see his suicide through? Would it make sense if James didn't learn a thing and is doomed to repeat history, as he leaves Silent Hill with his wife's doppelganger? There's no canon answer. James came to Silent Hill because he wanted to be punished and was a sinner, just like every other person who can see Silent Hill. It provided some insight into her character and was a nice 45-60 minute DLC addition to the game.Ī story about internal demons, repressed memories and regrets in the form of a psychological horror, the beauty of this game is that many people disagree on what the canon ending is, and if James Sutherland deserved redemption for what he did to his wife. I also enjoyed the bonus story featuring Maria. This being my first Silent Hill game, it has piqued my interest, and I'm eager to play the entire franchise, just like I did with Resident Evil. It's genuinely scary, delves into psychological horror, and overall, it's far more interesting to me. But putting that aside, this game is the Resident Evil experience I've always wanted. The weapons don't feel as powerful as they should, and sometimes melee combat seems more effective against easier foes. While you get a lot of ammo, the monsters are bullet sponges, requiring way more shots than you'd expect. If there's one downside, it's the weapon play. The unique monster designs, like Pyramid Head, are top-notch, and the puzzles add an extra layer of challenge to the gameplay. I loved how the character's map notes things down as you progress, creating a sense of immersion. ![]() The town itself is fascinating, and exploring it was one of the most addicting experiences I've had in a game. When I think of Silent Hill, I used to associate it with a Resident Evil-type game with some horror aspects, but this game took it to a whole new level. The horror elements in the game are surprisingly well done, surpassing my expectations. The backstories of the different characters are compelling and well-crafted. The story is told in a cryptic and weird manner, leaving you often saying "WTF," but as you progress, you unravel more and more of the mystery behind Silent Hill. 7h 14m PlayedThis game is awesome! I actually played it on my XBOX 360, and even though it's glitched with missing textures and the flashlight shining out of James' back, making him look like a lighthouse, I thoroughly enjoyed it. ![]()
